Four of them, actually.
I followed !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and got some friends to help, with the promise of pizza and beer. THEN I GAVE THEM NONE. I wasn’t happy with their work. Donnie T taught me I don’t have to pay them if I don’t want to.
Now, to get a roof, and some new friends.

I’ve had one for about a month. What’s funny is that the town paperwork is all on line, so I can put in all my neighbors’ addresses and see who didn’t get permits for theirs :D
Not that I would rat anybody out. Even when they give me side eye at HOA meetings for having too many motorcycles in my driveway.

I didn’t, but I did tell Billy Bush I did. I hope he keeps his mouth shut.

You should’ve made them pay for it.

I was messing with you, because in many places it’s only a “building/structure” necessitating a permit if it has a roof. If you left the roof off, you might not need a building permit. Funny how bureaucracies work.
That’s great that all that info is online and you can see who forgot to get a permit for their tool shed or whatever. I’m glad you know you wouldn’t rat them out. That’s just not neighborly- but neither is any crap you get from the HOA about motorcycles in your driveway.
Another reason for me to never purchase a house that’s part of an HOA... And that reminds me- I really want a motorcycle.

It’s really a weird situation. Half the people on the block say nothing about the HOA and want nothing to do with it. A few houses (near me, of course) are uptight sticklers who like to blast nasty emails about ‘some residents’ violating stupid rules.

If only. I think Donnie’s gonna have more luck than I would.

Well done, regarding the stingy pizza & beer offer. Your other solution regarding getting some Amish could’ve also worked. Fun thing about them is that they can underbid everyone because they don’t pay into Social Security or Workers’ Comp!
I see you are building on posts & concrete. Are you not allowed to just put the shed on a skid of 4x4s and claim it’s a ‘moveable structure’? That’s how folks around here can get away with not having permits and such.

I want to be able to use a level space reliably, and being in VT, that means getting concrete below the frost line, so I needed 5 foot holes.
The $50 permit was worth it.
As for the Amish, there aren’t really any enclaves near by. Nor are there the typical off-the-books day laborers. But with today’s gig economy, maybe I could have employed a 1099 off CL.

Makes sense. To go below the frost line here, we usually have to go 37". I know all the post-frame structure builders go that far in this area.
Around here it’s not so much about cheating a permit as just not needing one.
The Amish statement was just bs-ing...not that I’d actually suggest paying people to do something like that. Heck no!

Yeah yeah, I was never really considering Amish, or shorting my friends!
It’s all just a little humor in these trying times.

I built my own shed a few years back after I priced the ready-made ones. I used premium materials and I was surprised by how much it cost and how long it took to complete, built from scratch. But it looks like a proper building...
